Rahul scored an unbeaten 93 off 53 balls, batting at No.4 with 7 fours and 6 sixes in his innings, finishing with a strike-rate of 175.47.

The Karnataka boy walked in with Delhi struggling at 10 for 2 in 2.1 overs, chasing a target of 164 runs. It was his partnership with Tristan Stubbs that took Delhi Capitals to their fourth win in four games. This win also kept them unbeaten in their IPL 2025 campaign.

Speaking at the post-match presentation where he was presented the Man of the Match award, Rahul said keeping behind the wickets helped him assess the Chinnaswamy pitch better because it was a tricky surface.

“It was a slightly tricky wicket, but I think what helped me is just being behind the stumps for 20 overs and just watching how the wicket played,” Rahul said on the broadcast after the game. “I knew… I mean, from wicketkeeping, I figured that the ball sat in the wicket a little bit, but it was consistent throughout.

“It wasn’t two-paced, it was one pace, and it just sat in the wicket a little bit. I knew what my shots are, so I just wanted to get off to a good start, be aggressive initially, and then assess it from there, and that’s what I did.”

However, it was Rahul’s celebration after hitting the winning shot that grabbed all the more eyeballs.

Rahul brought out his aggressive side and marked his territory near the pitch. He then blurted out a few words, perhaps “This is my ground”, while gesturing that he owns the arena they were playing in. Rahul has spent majority of his career playing at the Chinnaswamy and is a local boy.

In a video, later released by Delhi Capitals, Rahul was again heard saying: “Mera ground hai yeh” while leaving the ground and celebrating with his teammates.
