Stand-in skipper MS Dhoni will be leading the side, after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the tournament due to an elbow injury. Gaikwad’s absence comes as a huge blow to CSK’s batting that hasn’t quite clicked anyway.
Ahead of the game, Dhoni met DJ Bravo, who is now working as KKR’s mentor. Bravo was earlier part of CSK’s core team and also helped CSK win four titles – in 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2022, all under Dhoni’s leadership.
The former West Indies international also served as the bowling coach of the side during the 2023 season.
A video posted from CSK’s official handle showed the duo’s meet-up while Dhoni was batting in the nets. The light-hearted moment saw Dhoni saying, “The traitor is here”. Both the players are all smiles and exchange hugs.
“Life is so unfair” says Bravo before meeting up with Ravindra Jadeja.

Chennai meanwhile are at the ninth position in the IPL 2025 Points Table. They have lost four out of five games played so far and are only above Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
CSK came up 18 runs short in the last game as well, against Punjab Kings that saw Dhoni play a 27 off 12 cameo.
Fans although will be hoping for a change of fortunes with the veteran Dhoni now taking charge.
KKR meanwhile lost their game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), by just four runs in what was a high-scoring fixture at the Eden Gardens.
KKR are at sixth in the points table with two wins in five matches.
