(Photo credit: Screengrab Jio Hotstar)The high-stakes encounter between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2025 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium produced more than just a gripping contest – it saw a rare on-field spat between Indian cricket stars Virat Kohli and KL Rahul.
During a tense RCB chase of 163, emotions spilled over in the middle overs when the two engaged in a brief verbal exchange, catching fans and commentators by surprise.
The flashpoint occurred midway through RCB’s innings. Kohli, attempting to stabilize the chase after an early collapse, appeared to direct a comment toward Rahul behind the stumps. Rahul, visibly nonchalant, responded with a helpless shrug.
Although the exact trigger for the confrontation remains unclear, the incident momentarily heightened the drama before both players regained focus and continued with the game.

The root of Kohli’s irritation seemed to stem from a delay earlier in the 7th over. DC had already been warned after fielders tried adjusting positions during a free-hit delivery bowled to Krunal Pandya.
Later, a lengthy discussion between Rahul and bowler Vipraj Nigam appeared to stall proceedings further, causing frustration for Kohli, who eventually raised the matter with the umpires. The simmering tension then surfaced again after DC reviewed an LBW decision against Pandya off Kuldeep Yadav, prompting the verbal exchange.
Despite the heated moment, it is important to note that Kohli and Rahul share a strong bond off the field. The clash seemed more a result of the match’s intensity rather than any personal animosity.
Meanwhile, RCB came out on top winning the match by six wickets, thanks to a special innings by Krunal Pandya, scoring 73* off 47. The left-hander hit 5 fours and 4 sixes. Krunal walked in with RCB reeling at 26 for 3 inside four overs but batted brilliantly to take the game away from the hosts.
Kohli himself scored a half-century and finished with 51 off 47, with four boundaries in his innings. It was Kohli and Krunal’s massive partnership that turned the heat on the Capitals.

The duo however was seen hugging and greeting each other again after RCB’s victory. Kohli in fact even mocked Rahul over his ‘Kantara’ celebration the last time the two teams met at the Chinnaswamy. Rahul had played an extra-ordinary innings then and won the game for the Capitals at his own home ground, where he had actually grown up playing.
