(Photo credit: Getty Images)Yuzvendra Chahal made history during the 49th match of IPL 2025 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by taking a brilliant hat-trick, his second in IPL history. Only two other bowlers have managed this before: Amit Mishra (three hat-tricks) and Yuvraj Singh (two hat-tricks).
Chahal dismissed Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj, and Noor Ahmad in consecutive deliveries to complete the hat-trick. Earlier in the same over, he had already taken the big wicket of MS Dhoni. At that point, CSK looked set to cross 200 runs comfortably, but Chahal’s magic changed everything. Despite Dhoni hitting him for a six on the first ball of the over, Chahal stayed focused and sent him back to the pavilion for the fourth time in T20s.
His game-changing 19th over helped him finish with figures of 4 wickets for 32 runs in just three overs. This was also the first-ever IPL hat-trick at Chepauk since Lakshmipathy Balaji’s in 2008, and the first time anyone has taken a hat-trick against CSK in IPL history.

CSK went from 184/5 to 190 all out in just seven balls. Sam Curran looked set to take them beyond 200 with a powerful 88 off 47 balls, but his dismissal near the end slowed things down. Still, it was Chahal’s over that stole the show and helped PBKS stop CSK.
Chahal also became the first player in IPL history to take hat-tricks for two different teams. He previously did it for Rajasthan Royals in 2022 against KKR.
Additionally, he joined an elite club of bowlers with multiple IPL hat-tricks, only Amit Mishra and Yuvraj Singh have achieved that. Chahal is also now the fourth PBKS bowler to take a hat-trick in IPL, after Yuvraj, Mishra, and Sam Curran.
Chahal eventually finished with bowling figures of 3-0-32-4.
