The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 clash between Multan Sultans and Islamabad United on Wednesday, April 23, was marked by an unusual confrontation when Islamabad’s Colin Munro accused Multan all-rounder Iftikhar Ahmed of chucking.

The rare scene unfolded during the 10th over of United’s run chase, leaving players, umpires, and fans stunned.

After defending a sharp yorker from Iftikhar, Munro unexpectedly challenged the legality of the bowler’s action, a move that typically falls under the jurisdiction of umpires or match officials, not players.

According to ICC regulations, bowlers must not extend their elbow beyond a 15-degree limit during delivery. Munro appeared convinced that Iftikhar had crossed that threshold.

The Incident

The situation escalated quickly as Iftikhar reacted angrily to Munro’s accusations, leading to a heated exchange between the two.

Multan Sultans skipper Mohammad Rizwan stepped in to de-escalate the situation and urged Munro to continue batting. Match officials also intervened, choosing to calm the situation and let the game proceed.

Shortly after the incident, Munro was dismissed for a well-made 45 off 28 deliveries by Michael Bracewell, with Iftikhar himself taking the catch. Despite the controversy, Munro’s contribution helped set the tone for United’s successful chase.

Chasing 169, Islamabad sealed a convincing seven-wicket victory with 17 balls remaining. Opener Andries Gous led the way with an unbeaten 80 off 45 balls, guiding his side to their fifth consecutive win and keeping them unbeaten in the tournament.

Highlights

Earlier in the match, Multan Sultans managed 168 runs in their innings. Usman Khan scored a brisk 61 from 40 balls, while Rizwan struggled to find rhythm, scoring 36 off 37 deliveries.

Iftikhar chipped in with 10 runs and bowled two overs, conceding 20 runs without any wickets.

As it stands, Islamabad United sit atop the PSL 2025 standings with a perfect record, while Multan Sultans languish at the bottom with just one win in five matches.

It remains to be seen if any action will be taken regarding Munro’s on-field accusation against Iftikhar.
