Bedi, a promising 22-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman, was all set to make his IPL debut in CSK’s recent match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
He was even listed in the playing XI. However, an injury just before the game forced him out, with Deepak Hooda taking his place. Unfortunately, scans confirmed a ligament tear in Bedi’s left ankle, ruling him out for the rest of the season.
To fill the gap, CSK have signed Urvil Patel at his base price of ₹30 lakh. The 26-year-old from Gujarat made headlines recently by smashing the fastest T20 century by an Indian, reaching the milestone in just 28 balls against Tripura in the 2024–25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

In that tournament, Urvil was in red-hot form, scoring 315 runs in just six games with two centuries. He averaged over 78 and had a blistering strike rate close to 230. Overall, in 47 T20 appearances, he has notched up 1162 runs, including two hundreds and four fifties.
As a wicketkeeper-batter known for his aggressive style, he now adds firepower to CSK’s squad.
CSK are currently placed at the bottom of the Points Table, with just two wins from 11 games. They are officially out of the Playoffs race.

Patel’s inclusion however comes a boost to the squad as they look to rebuild for next year’s campaign. With Ayush Mhatre, Dewald Brevis, and now Patel in the mix, CSK gains the energy and flair that young talent naturally brings to the table.
It remains to be seen however, if Patel will be making his debut in CSK’s next game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens.
