The Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper smashed five sixes in Moeen Ali’s over followed by another one on the first ball of Varun Chakravarthy’s next over.
Parag turned on the heat against KKR despite losing wickets regularly from other end. He brought his A-game against spin at the Eden Gardens and kept smashing KKR’s spinners the moment it was pitched up or too short.
He was however dismissed for a brilliantly made 95 off 45 with 6 fours and 8 sixes in his innings, narrowly missing out on what would have been a fabulous century.
It was Harshit Rana who scalped Parag’s wicket off a slower delivery, caught at long-on.
Parag joined an elite group of players like Chris Gayle, Rahul Tewatia, and Rinku Singh by smashing 5 sixes in one over during an IPL match.
Into the history books!
So far, no player has ever managed to hit 6 sixes in a single over in IPL history. However, in T20 internationals, three players – Dipendra Singh Airee, Kieron Pollard, and Yuvraj Singh, have pulled off that incredible achievement by hitting 6 consecutive sixes.
Parag’s innings however could not take Rajasthan Royals to a win. They eventually lost by 1 run in a nail-biting finish at the Eden Gardens.
Riyan has stepped up as Rajasthan Royals’ stand-in captain while Sanju Samson recovers from a side strain. Earlier in the season, Riyan also led the team in the first three matches, with Samson featuring only as an Impact Player during those games.
Parag has been RR’s second best-batter in the tournament. Only Yashasvi Jaiswal (473 runs) is ahead of him. Parag has accumulated (377 runs in 12 games) at a strike-rate of 170.58.
