Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly has said that India should cut all ties with Pakistan, following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, earlier this year. The attack killed 26 innocent tourists and caused widespread anger against Pakistan across India.

Ganguly stressed that strong action is urgently needed to stop such repeated acts of terrorism.

At the same time, Pakistan’s army fired without provocation along the Line of Control (LoC). Indian forces responded to the firing, according to military sources who spoke to PTI on Saturday, April 26.

“100 per cent, this (breaking ties with Pakistan) should be done. Strict action is necessary. It is no joke that such things happen every year. Terrorism cannot be tolerated,” Ganguly said while speaking to the media in Kolkata.

Due to ongoing political tensions, India has not toured Pakistan for cricket matches in the past 17 years, with their last visit being for the Asia Cup.

DEVELOPMENTS AFTER THE PAHALGAM ATTACK

The latest exchange of gunfire along the border happened for the second night in a row, increasing tensions after the Pahalgam attack that left 26 civilians dead.

On Thursday night, Pakistani forces again opened fire at Indian posts along the LoC, and India gave a strong reply. Thankfully, no casualties were reported during the firing.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s military has been put on high alert after India vowed to hunt down those responsible for the Pahalgam attack.

In response to the cross-border connections in the Pahalgam attack, India on Wednesday announced several strong actions. These included suspending the 65-year-old Indus Waters Treaty, shutting down the Attari land border crossing, and expelling Pakistani military attachés from the country.

Additionally, India instructed all Pakistani nationals who had entered India through the Attari border to leave by May 1.

As a countermeasure, Pakistan on Thursday declared that it would close its airspace to all Indian flights and halt all trade activities with India, even those routed through third-party countries.
