Punjab Kings (PBKS) stunned Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and handed them a 16-run defeat in a low-scoring contest at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, in the IPL 2025.

Yuzvendra Chahal was the star of the game, picking up bowling figures of 4 for 28, bringing the game alive after PBKS were bowled out for just 111.

This was Chahal’s third 4-plus wicket haul vs KKR, the most by a bowler against an opponent in the IPL. He was well supported by Marco Jansen who himself bagged figures of 3 for 17.

It was the lowest score ever defended in the IPL history. The Knight Riders looked very much on course to victory when captain Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi were at the crease, but they collapsed like a pack of cards after the former’s wicket.

Andre Russell (17 off 11), Kolkata’s last hope at the crease, was also the last man dismissed, castled by Marco Jansen, with 27 balls still left.

Punjab Kings climbed the fourth spot in the IPL 2025 Points Table and now have 8 points from six games.

Earlier PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bat first. None of the batters could get going, with Prabhsimran the highest score of 30 (15).

Harshit Rana was the pick of the bowlers for KKR, finishing with figures of 3 for 25.

“It’s had to express in words, I saw the ball was turning a bit, asked Yuzi to control his breathing as much as possible, we needed to be attacking, I’m not able to talk, it’s tough to digest this victory,” said Shreyar Iyer after the win.

Mullanpur witnessed amazing scenes after the last wicket fell. Fans went wild, while the Punjab players were ecstatic.

The irony was that Punjab could not defend 245 a few days back against Sunrisers Hyderabad, when Abhishek Sharma smacked them to all corners and here they were, only a few days later defending the lowest score ever in the tournament’s history.
