Rohit Sharma was involved in a candid conversation with commentators during the Border-Gavaskar Series. (Screengrab Star Sports)Even though Rohit Sharma has now retired from Test cricket, an old interview of his is making the rounds on social media.
The interview took place during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25, when Rohit chose to sit out of the fifth and final Test in Sydney.
During the lunch break on Day 2 of that match, Rohit gave a light-hearted and honest interview where he spoke about his future in Test cricket.
At the time, he denied rumours of retirement with a smile, saying, “Main kahin nahi jaa raha. Idhar hi hun,” which made Irfan Pathan and presenter Jatin Sapru laugh.

Rohit explained that stepping out of the playing XI was a team-first decision. He didn’t want to put personal goals above what the team needed.
“I believe things will change, but at the same time, I have to be realistic. People sitting in commentary boxes or writing on laptops don’t decide how my life goes,” he had said.
He also responded to his critics, saying he had enough experience to make his own calls. “I am a sensible, mature person, a father of two kids. I have some brain and know what I want from my life,” he added.

The video was widely shared online and reassured fans that Rohit wasn’t planning to quit. But on Wednesday, the 38-year-old shocked many by posting on Instagram that he is retiring from Test cricket. In his message, he thanked fans for their support and love.
Rohit however, will continue to play in ODI cricket for India.
